In the Grim Darkness of the Far Future, There is Only War… This Saturday at Battlegrounds will feature Warhammer 40K as usual but, in addition, we’ll be playing the Warhammer Invasion living card game by Fantasy Flight & Games Workshop which is set in the Warhammer Fantasy universe. The forces of order (Empire, Dwarves, and High Elves) take on the forces of destruction (Chaos, Dwarves, Dark Elves, and Skaven) in attempt to engulf the opposing side’s kingdom in flames. We’ll have decks for you to try and will be teaching the game to newcomers.

So what is a “living card game?” It’s similar to a collectible card game; new cards come out regularly so the ability to customize your deck with new cards is always there with new choices all the time. The big difference, however, is that the core set and expansion packs are not randomly distributed. When an expansion pack comes out for a living card game, every pack contains the exact same cards so you don’t have to be concerned about whether or not the packs you buy have the cards you want.

Hallowe’en is fast approaching! Come do some Trick or Treating at Battlegrounds on Saturday, October 31st. Rising from the grave once again it’s the annual d20 sale. Come on in, roll a d20, and get that percentage off your purchase. There will also be Victory Points awarded for the best costume so come on in and show off.

Speaking of Victory Points… any outstanding VPs need to be spent by the end of the day on Friday, October 30th. Any unspent victory points will be devoured by The Great Cthulhu once the store closes on Friday. No foolin’!

There will also be after-hours gaming on Hallowe’en. Paul will be running a True20 Zombie Survival RPG with eight seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. There will also be a big game of Arkham Horror for you Lovecraft fans. And, last but certainly not least, the 2009 Battlegrounds Champion will be crowned!

The Battlegrounds Wrestling Association has returned! Come in at 3:00 PM on Thursday to talk smack and take it to the squared circle. This time around, the Palladium system (Ninjas & Superspies, specifically) will be used to resolve the in-ring action but the promos and jaw-jacking are entirely up to you!

AT-43 has quite literally evolved as the self-proclaimed “Masters of Evolution” faction have arrived at Battlegrounds. The COGs are a highly mobile army with fearless robotic armoured fighting vehicles and elite squads of cloned troopers with amazing accuracy. The new 2000 point army box is ready to play right out of the box for a steal of a price and there are extra units, heroes, and attachments available, as well. Don’t forget the army book, too!
